Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny quiet town. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar to its significance. Many people believe that it's an island located west of Montreal However, it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the two cities of Lachine and West. It is often cited as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time in the city was brief. Brugel grew up in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. She had a dream to be a dancer but a growth spurt resulted in her outgrowing her dance partners. The Toronto Star article revealed she's 6 feet 1 inch tall and has heels. As I grew older than my male companions, I quit. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. In the case of Brugel it was the guidance from her drama teacher at her high school which pushed her to the path she needed. She was recommended by a teacher to find a role in school's annual production. She was chosen to play the lead role for Anne of Green Gables after she tried out. After receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years since, Brugel has been offered roles in over 60 shows on the big and small screens. She attracted the most interest when she was offered the character of Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the only Canadian part of the cast in Season 1 of the series, and not seen much.
